Ion channel

Ion channels are membrane protein complexes and their function is to facilitate the diffusion of ions across biological membranes. Ion channels constitute the second largest membrane protein family with over 300 different subtypes. Ion channels are the targets of many currently approved drugs including treatments for anxiety, pain & nausea.

Theranyx is greatly interested in ion channels as a therapeutic target and has generated a collection of 30 members of this family. Our platform has generated functional antibody fragments modulating the activity of several ion channels, leading to the submission of several patent applications and a publication in Nature in 2014.

Thernayx is currently collaborating with a US biotech company for the generation of Therabodies™ that act on several ion channels involved in pain and cancer.
